Castonguay Forces Game 7 with Double OT Winner, 3-2
04/19/2009
TRENTON, N.J., (April 19, 2009) -- Eric Castonguay chose an important time to score his first career playoff goal as the winger forced a Game 7 for the Trenton Devils with a double overtime win over the Elmira Jackals, 3-2, Sunday night.

Castonguay weaved into the slot and fired a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Michael Teslak to give the Devils a victory in front of their hometown fans, forcing a deciding Game 7 that will be played Tuesday night in Trenton.

Chaz Johnson started the scoring 6:19 into the game with a power play goal from the near circle, his second of the playoffs.

The Devils had several opportunities to tie the game on the power play, and finally broke through after the conclusion of a power play at 14:57 of the second, as Dave Leaderer fired a one-timer from the far circle for his first career playoff goal.

The Jackals regained the lead 13:12 into the third after a Devils turnover led to Brendan Connolly passing the puck from behind the net to Derek Couture, who buried the stash to make it 2-1.

With the Devils facing elimination, Dan Eves feathered a pass from the far corner to the slot, where Justin Coutu blasted a shot to the top shelf of the net for his second of the playoffs with 1:29 left in regulation time.

The Devils received an opportunity late in the first overtime with a power play, but were unable to convert. The Jackals would have a power play of their own in the second overtime, and for the second night in a row, the Devils scored quickly after they killed it off with Castonguay's game-winner.

Jeff Frazee made 43 saves to earn his second straight win. The netminder now has a 1.69 goals-against-average to go with a .934 save percentage in the playoffs.

The Devils will compete for a spot in the North Division Final Tuesday night in Game 7 of the North Division Semifinals against the Jackals. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available by logging onto www.trentondevils.com.
