THE WEEK IN REVIEW

CYCLONES DOWN DEVILS, 3-1
Penalties doomed the Devils in their 3-1 loss Tuesday morning in Cincinnati. The Devils allowed the Cyclones 12 power plays, compiling 41 penalty minutes. Shorthanded for much of the contest, the offense could not get in gear, managing only 17 shots. Cincinnati took the lead 84 seconds into the game with Matt Pierce's tenth goal of the season, his first of two in the game. The Devils tied the game just four minutes later on a Kyle Kucharski goal. A breakout pass from Andy Thomas to Tim Kunes started a two-0n-one breakaway for the Devils with Kunes skating down the left wing and Kucharski on the right. Kucharski found the net on a slick tape to tape pass from Kunes in the slot, scoring on the Devils' first shot of the game. Less than a minute later, the Cyclones took the lead for good with a goal by Scott Reynolds. The Devils killed off eight penalties before giving up a power play goal to Pierce in the third period. The offense could not get going for the Devils, who lost their fourth consecutive game. Goalie Dave Caruso made 30 saves in net.

DEVILS OVERCOME CYCLONES, 4-2
The Devils fought back from a two goal deficit to defeat the Cincinnati Cyclones Wednesday night, 4-2. Trenton managed a season low 16 shots, compared to 39 for Cincinnati, but the Devils were much more disciplined than in Tuesday morning's contest, allowing just seven power plays. The Cyclones took the early lead with two first period goals from Dustin Sproat and Mike McLean. Dan Eves cut the Cyclones' lead in half when he chipped in a rebound at 9:10 in the first, his fourth goal of the season. With Cincinnati's Brian O'Hanley in the box for interference at 19:01 in the first, the Devils evened the game. It took only 21 seconds into the power play for Brett Wilson to bang home a rebound following a Dave Leaderer shot. The Devils again scored on the power play 16 minutes into the second when Mike Harder faked out Cyclones' goalie Jeremy Smith on a give-and-go with Dan Eves. Jeremy Akeson gave the Devils the insurance goal at 18:37 in the third and the Devils came away with a 4-2 victory. Mike Harder had three points, including the game winning goal and Gerald Coleman recorded 37 saves as Trenton halted its four game losing streak.

WINGS SHUTOUT DEVILS, 5-0
Despite compiling 36 shots, the Devils could not solve Kalamazoo goalie Ryan Nie in a 5-0 loss Friday night at Wings Stadium. The game was marked by a brash a penalties. The two teams amassed a total of 102 penalty minutes, a season high 60 for Trenton, as Gord Burnett had two fighting majors and a ten-minute misconduct. The Wings capitalized on the power play at 1:48 in the first and then again at 10:14 in the first to take a 2-0 lead. By the end of the second period, the Wings had jumped out to a 5-0 lead. With the lead at five goals in the second for Kalamazoo, every player on the ice was involved in a scuffle that resulted in five penalties, including Scott Barlett and Bryan Jurynec for fighting. The Devils notched 14 shots in the third, producing several quality scoring chances, but could not beat Wings goalie Ryan Nie, who shined in net.

DEVILS HOLD OFF WINGS, 4-3
The Devils pulled off a 4-3 victory in Kalamazoo Sunday afternoon, holding off the American Conference's strongest squad and handing the Wings only their second regulation loss of the season. Dan Eves scored the first Devils goal at 4:57 of the first, ending a streak of nearly 139 minutes without a Devils goal vs. Kalamazoo, dating to the season opener on October 17. Tony Zancanaro scored a power play goal just six minutes later, knocking in a rebound after an Andy Thomas blast. After the Wings had cut the Devils' lead in half, Myles Stoesz scored from the slot after a feed from Brett Wilson. Kalamazoo scored two more in the second but Dan Eves scored his second goal of the game to give the Devils the 4-3 lead. The Devils defense was solid in the scoreless third period, effectively killing off two power plays in the final eight minutes in addition to a six-on-five advantage after goalie Julien Ellis was pulled. Dan Eves had two goals and Gerald Coleman stopped 42 shots for a 4-3 Devils win.
